Over one million people have been affected by heavy rains in Hunan province, Central China.
The relentless downpours, which have lashed Hunan since last Friday, have directly impacted 1.15 million people and caused economic losses amounting to about 6.13 billion yuan (around $859.75 million), according to local authorities on Wednesday.
The severe storms, triggered by Typhoon Doksuri, have necessitated the evacuation of 95,000 residents in the province, with 49,800 of them requiring emergency assistance, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The floods have also devastated tens of thousands of hectares of farmland.
The Hunan Meteorological Department forecasts more heavy rains in the northwestern parts of the province over the next couple of days and has advised taking precautionary measures to mitigate the impact.
