MoHP Screens 99,000 Newborns for Early Detection of Genetic Diseases

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) announced the examination of 99,000 newborns as part of the President’s initiative for the early detection of genetic diseases.

The ministry provides free treatment, from its launching on the 13th of last July until today, with the aim of reaching a healthy generation free from causes of disabilities.

MoHP stated that the initiative, in its first phase, covers 19 genetic diseases in premature babies in the nurseries of the ministry.

It indicated that the 19 diseases that are detected include (congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, folic anemia, cystic fibrosis, hereditary hyperlipidemia, deficiency, fatty acid oxidation, and deficiency biotinidase enzyme, and other genetic disorders.
