Health Ministry: COVID-19 Recovery Rate Reaches 83.5%

The recovery rate from the coronavirus at Egyptian isolation hospitals has reached 83.5%, after receiving the necessary medical care, according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday.

In the same context, Health Affairs Presidential Advisor Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din said on Wednesday that 500,000 citizens received COVID-19 booster shots, especially those with weak immunity.

In a press conference, Tag El-Din urged citizens to remain home, follow preventive measures and avoid crowded places.

Earlier, the Presidential Advisor said that the new COVID-19 mutant is not more difficult than other ones, but it is highly contagious.

In televised remarks, Tag el-Din added that Egypt has already received 121.2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine till December 26.

Moreover, he stressed that the COVID-19 vaccine is like the seasonal flu vaccination, works from 6 to 9 months, thus the booster dose is given every 6 months.

It is worthy to mention that on Wednesday, Egypt’s Health Ministry reported 1379 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 403,990.

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 22,238 nationwide after the ministry announced 33 deaths.

About 1599 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising the total number of fully-recovered cases to 337,627.
