On Saturday, Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayd declared that new entry restrictions will be implemented this week, to curb the further spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, according to international and domestic reports released Sunday.

In an official statement on the virtual Health Minister meeting, Zayd pointed out that the government imposed entry restrictions in light of the Coronavirus novel.

"All travelers and visitors, including Egyptian nationals, will be required to present a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon entry into the country," the statement added.

Lately, Prime minister Mostafa Madbouly has signed a proclamation implementing the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and new precautionary measures for the next two weeks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Egypt has reported more than 2000 new cases daily for nine days in a row, hitting another global record of 236272 on Sunday.
