Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass gave a lecture entitled “Secrets of the Pharaohs” at Nile University in the presence of Mr. Amr Moussa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nile University.

Talking about his personal career, Hawass said that he was not used to the work atmosphere in Antiquities Authority, where he was appointed after graduation, until he moved to work in excavations and began to acquire skills from experienced workers and then he got a grant for 7 years to study in America.

He also noted that Egypt has 124 pyramids, the greatest of which is the pyramid of King Khufu. These pyramids are all evidences to his Egyptian originality, noting that the ancient Egyptians' faith in the other world is the reason for their ingenuity in all fields, especially building the pyramids, which were the national project for Egyptians and the place from which kings rule Egypt.

He denied the presence of ‘red mercury’ in tombs, as some believe it brings many riches and cures of diseases, adding that only 30% of Egypt's antiquities have been discovered and that the rest of its secrets are still lurking in the ground.

He confirmed that Egyptian antiquities were legally getting outside Egypt until 1983. "Unfortunately, after those illegal smuggling operations became active, Egyptian antiquities became everywhere in the world."

The Egyptian archaeologist informed the attendees of the fact that any place which contains  mummies must have been closed for thousands of years, and so when it gets opened, invisible germs emerge, which leads people to believe in the existence of the curse of the pharaohs that harms researchers for antiquities after excavation.

On his part, Moussa gifted Nile University his own library during the graduation ceremony that was organized for university students in the presence of Dr. Tariq Khalil, President of the University, and members of the faculty and the University’s Board of Trustees.
