Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Antiquities, is announcing that today the petition for the return of the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum and the Dendera Zodiac from the Louvre is published on the website drhawass.com. It is also shared on all his social media sites and Change.org.
The petition is ready for all those who love Egypt all over the world to sign. Hawass said that it was planned to ask for these two pieces in 2011 but the circumstances at that time impeded their immediate return.
The two pieces in question, the Rosetta Stone and the Dendera Zodiac, left Egypt illegally. They need to be returned. The new state of the art Grand Egyptian Museum is waiting for them to come home.
Returning these two iconic artifacts to Egypt would be an important acknowledgment to the commitment of Western Museums to decolonizing their collections and making reparations for the past. Upon their return, they would be prominently displayed at the new Grand Egyptian Museum, scheduled to be opened early next year.

We are calling on the international community to demand the repatriation of these objects. Please sign and share this petition. We need to show that the world knows that these objects belong in Egypt. The signatories of this petition support the abovementioned requests for repatriation.
We ask that everyone who loves and appreciates ancient Egypt signs and supports us in this cause. When we can show that the entire international community knows that these objects belong in their Egyptian home, we can demand action from the museums.
