Michael Gambon, who portrayed Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight “Harry Potter” films, died at the age of 82, the family announced on Thursday.
Gambon died on Wednesday after “a bout of pneumonia,” according to his publicist, Clair Dobbs.
In an official statement, Gambon's family said: “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside."
Although his role in Harry Potter films is the top trending, he has always been one of the most influential British actors with a remarkable profile.
Gambon received his knighthood rank in 1998 due to his wide contribution to the scene of arts and entertainment.
