U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said the tragedy of the Sept. 11 attacks had shown how “fear can be used to sow pision,” asserting that America’s persity was its greatest asset.

"On the days that followed September 11th, 2001, we were all reminded that unity is possible in America. We also were reminded that unity is imperative in America," said Harris while speaking at a memorial service near Shanksville, Pa.

"At the same time, we saw after 9/11 how fear can be used to sow pision in our nation as Sikh and Muslim Americans were targeted because of how they looked or how they worshipped," Harris noted.

In the same vein, the Vice President affirmed that many Americans stood in solidarity with all people and their fellow Americans, with "those who experience violence and discrimination."

Moreover, she stressed that those days reminded us of the significance and the strength of unity as Americans and that it is possible in America.

“On this 20th anniversary, on this solemn day of remembrance, we must challenge ourselves to, yes, look back. For the sake of our children. For the sake of their children,” she concluded. “And for that reason, we must also look forward. We must also look toward the future. Because in the end, that is what the 40 were fighting for: Their future. And ours.”

On their part, President Joe Biden and former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton all gathered at the site where the World Trade Center towers fell two decades ago, standing somberly side by side at the National September 11 Memorial.

They all shared a moment of silence to mark the anniversary of the nation’s worst terror attack with a display of unity.
