Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has equaled the record of Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o for the most UEFA Champions League titles won by an African player after helping Paris Saint-Germain claim the trophy for a second consecutive season.
With PSG’s triumph over Arsenal in the 2026 Champions League final, Hakimi secured the third Champions League title of his career. The achievement places him alongside Eto’o as the most decorated African player in the competition’s history, with both stars now holding three winners’ medals.
Eto’o won the prestigious European trophy twice with FC Barcelona in 2006 and 2009, defeating Arsenal and Manchester United in the respective finals. He later added a third title with Inter Milan in 2010 after victory over Bayern Munich.
Hakimi’s first Champions League success came with Real Madrid in 2018, before adding two more titles with Paris Saint-Germain. His latest triumph further strengthens his status as one of Africa’s most successful footballers on the European stage.
Meanwhile, UEFA named Portuguese midfielder Vitinha as the Player of the Match in the final after an outstanding performance. The midfielder played a key role as PSG defeated Arsenal 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in Budapest.
Arsenal had taken an early lead through Kai Havertz in the sixth minute, but PSG equalized through Ousmane Dembele from the penalty spot in the 66th minute before eventually prevailing in the shootout to retain their European crown.
