Hafize Gaye Erkan Named as Turkey's New Central Bank Governor

The Turkish Official Gazette confirmed that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed Hafize Gaye Erkan, a financial executive in the United States, as head of the Turkish Central Bank.

A decree was issued in the Official Gazette concerning the appointment of the international banking expert, Gaye Erkan, as head of the Central Bank.

The Official Gazette also stated that Erdogan appointed, Shihab Qafji Oglu, as head of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Authority (BDDK).

It is noteworthy that Hafize Gaye Erkan, described in Turkey as "the youngest financial professor," has returned from the United States of America, after studying and working in several banks and an investment advisor, namely First Republic as co-CEO.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital, Ankara, also witnessed, earlier, the ceremony of handing over the duties of the former minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, to his successor, Hakan Fidan.
