Olympique de Marseille suffered their seventh defeat of the Ligue 1 season after falling 2-0 to hosts Stade Brestois 29 in Round 23 on Friday night.

The result extends Marseille’s winless streak to four matches, with two draws and two defeats, including a heavy loss to Paris Saint-Germain and now Brest.

French forward Ludovic Ajorque was the hero for Brest, netting twice in the 10th and 29th minutes to secure a deserved victory for the home side.

Ajorque has now contributed six goal involvements in his last seven Ligue 1 appearances, taking his tally to 12 goal contributions in 22 matches this season, a decisive factor in Brest’s recent resurgence.

The win lifts Brest to 30 points in 11th place after two victories and two draws in their last four league outings.

For Marseille, the defeat leaves them stranded on 40 points in fourth place, with pressure mounting as the race for European qualification intensifies.

It was also a disappointing debut for newly appointed head coach Habib Beye, who was denied a dream start in charge.

Beye becomes only the second Marseille manager in the past two decades to lose his first official match by a two-goal margin, following André Villas-Boas in 2019.

With confidence shaken and momentum slipping, Marseille now face a crucial period in their campaign as they look to steady the ship and defend their place in the top four.
