Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), confirmed that next year, 2021, will be the beginning of the exit from the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, in the event that vaccines are distributed according to need and not wealth across the planet.

Guterres wrote, through his Twitter account that the balanced and fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world will be a huge task that requires political solidarity and complex logistical planning.”

Guterres added that if we distribute the vaccines according to need and not the wealth of nations, then 2021 may see the beginning of the exit from the pandemic.

It is noteworthy that the Secretary-General of the UN  called on everyone to prepare for the upcoming epidemics.

He stressed the need to learn lessons from the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and urging governments of the world to increase investments in preparing for health emergencies in the future.

He highlighted the need for strong health systems, social protection, and support for communities on the front lines, and technical cooperation of countries.

The UN Chief indicated the importance of solidarity and coordination as crucial matters within and between countries, adding: “No one is safe unless we are all safe, adding that we honored medical professionals, front-line workers, and essential workers globally for their “remarkable commitment” to the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a message set against the backdrop of the first celebration of the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, he said, “As we recover from the epidemic, let us resolve to build our preventive capabilities so that we are ready when the world faces the next outbreak.”
