United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for the immediate release of all UN staff members detained by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Guterres warned that the detention of UN employees is "alarming and raises concerns about the Houthis' commitment to resolving the conflict in Yemen."

On Monday, the Houthi group announced that they had captured an American-Israeli spy network. Abdul Hakim Hashim, the head of the group's security apparatus, claimed in a statement that the detained network is directly linked to the CIA.

Last Friday, a media source from the UN Coordination Office in Yemen confirmed that the Houthi group is conducting a widespread arrest campaign against employees of UN organizations and international and local organizations in the Houthi-controlled provinces of Sana'a and Hodeidah.

The source told the Arab World News Agency that several UN employees and other organization staff members have been abducted by the Houthi group since last Thursday, including Yemeni male and female staff. He added that the kidnapping of UN organization employees has been ongoing for days, but the Houthi crackdown on staff has intensified since last Thursday.
