United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for the urgent evacuation of 2,500 children from Gaza to receive critical medical treatment.
In a statement, Guterres stressed the dire humanitarian conditions in the besieged territory, emphasizing that these children need immediate care that is unavailable due to the ongoing conflict.
“The world cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of these children. They must be evacuated without delay to receive the medical attention they desperately need,” Guterres said.
The situation in Gaza has worsened due to months of hostilities, with hospitals overwhelmed and medical supplies dwindling. International organizations have repeatedly warned that the healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, leaving many, especially children, without life-saving treatment.
Guterres urged all parties involved in the conflict to allow humanitarian access and facilitate the safe passage of the children to hospitals outside Gaza.
He also called on the international community to step up efforts to provide medical assistance and ensure that civilians, particularly children, are protected.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with thousands in need of urgent medical care and basic necessities.
Human rights groups and aid organizations have echoed Guterres’ call, urging world leaders to intervene and help evacuate the children. Discussions are reportedly underway with regional and international partners to arrange for their safe transfer to hospitals abroad.
As the crisis deepens, the international community faces mounting pressure to take swift action to prevent further loss of life among Gaza’s most vulnerable population.
