The German University in Cairo (GUC) will witness the graduation of the first batch (the academic year 2016-2017) of students of the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies following a Presidential Decree No. 122 of 2017 by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

A specialized legal committee made up of faculty members in various law schools, in addition to members of the GUC discussed the graduation projects for students and declared them the first graduates in this field.

The faculty was keen, from the first day of enrollment, to provide distinct study programme for its students that would help build a unique graduate, who understands the fundamentals and the spirit of the law, as well as a comprehensive understanding of international law to be able to deal professionally with local and international issues.

A unique curriculum

the graduation projects for students

Over the four years of study, the college has provided its students with a unique curriculum that includes a European flavor and an international dimension, blending the Egyptian and German laws in both English and Arabic languages, distinguishing the faculty from its counterpart in Egypt, the Arab region and the Middle East by adopting theoretical and practical dimensions in its studies.

The college also holds seminars, workshops and mock arbitration competitions to build a student with skills in research, debate, negotiation, analysis and argument, in addition to public speaking skills, which gives values to graduates and enable them to work in international organizations and courts; they also become able to work in public, commercial, civil and international institutions. Graduates will also have the skills to help draft agreements, and the ability to work in judiciary, public prosecution, advocacy and legal advice.

A student explains his project

To achieve this goal, the college formed an advisory council that includes legal representatives from Egypt and Germany that meet periodically in both countries to continuously monitor the college, develop strategies for educational curricula, formulate and develop its education system, as well as support educational activities, and student training programs.

Among the members of this council from the German side are Michael Jansch, the founding dean of the faculty and professor of law at the University of "HTW" in Berlin, Stefan Kaufman, President of the Constitutional Court, Omaia Elwan, professor of law at the University of Heidelberg, judge Oliver Flyge, Horst Hetland, Director of the Department of Justice at the Federal Ministry of Justice, judge Alexander Lynch, and Hagen Halsbrink, professor of law at the HTW University in Berlin.

The Egyptian side:

On the Egyptian side, the council includes former higher education minister and former minister of Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Councils Mofed Shehab, former education minister and law Professor Ahmed Gamal Al Din, former attorney-general Abdel Magid Mahmoud, deputy justice minister Zakria Abdel Aziz, vice-president of the constitutional court chancellor Ragab Selim, as well as lawyer and legal expert Shawky Said.
