Many people dream of staying a wide flat with accessories and furniture to meet their needs but sometimes they get shocked with the flats in the reality and their size. Therefore, Sama Ahmed Omar, a researcher at Product Design of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts at the German University in Cairo devised ways to create various design alternatives.

Under the theme "How do designs grow in small flats?", Omar, in her research, tried to find out means of making use of small flats by organizing the furnishing to be compatible for the living.

She pointed out that one of the biggest problems in the megacities is the increasing number of the small flats. This comes because of the migration of village residents to these cities. So, the real estate companies resort to building flats with small sizes.

This problem motivated Omar to find various and inspiring ideas, based on designing multi-purposes furniture which is suitable for small flats taking into consideration maintaining their residential living standards to meet their changing needs.

The researcher visited four exhibitions in Egypt to show her complex designs to know the people's opinion of her work and take their notes.

She also held meetings and field visits with the world's largest furniture retailer "IKEA" here to benefit from its staff experience and collect data on designing the small flats in the Egyptian market.
