The German University in Cairo (GUC) hosted Ambassador Richard Dictus, UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative who is considered the most senior UN official in Egypt, to give lecture on "The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and its Impact on Egypt".

The lecture was held within a series of upcoming lectures that will be announced successively within the activities of 2020 year of international law at the German University, which was launched by the Department of International Law at the University's Faculty of Law and Legal Studies, and its activities continue for a whole year under the supervision of Dr. Nora Adel Salem.

In his speech, Dictus explained that Egypt is among the earliest countries in placing the United Nations pillars of sustainable development among its top priorities, adding  that the 17 pillars of the United Nations set solutions for urgent global problems (poverty - hunger - health - education - climate change - gender equality  - water - sanitation - energy - environment - social justice etc).

The UN Coordinator added that Egypt addressed the 17 pillars through the sustainable development strategy "Egypt's Vision 2030" and counted on them in its economic reform program; through these pillars, Cairo achieved remarkable progress widely and internationally recognized in terms of economic, social and environmental development.

He stressed that Egypt enjoys a long and extended partnership that linked it with the United Nations, noting that this is due to the fact that it is one of the first countries that contributed to the establishment of the organization, which reflected positively on its pioneering role, at the international and regional levels.

He called upon the world to demonstrate solidarity and international cooperation towards achieving remarkable progress in the issues of social and economic development.

The launching of these activities comes in line with the recommendations of the college’s advisory council, which meets periodically in Egypt and Germany to develop strategies for developing educational curricula and formulating and developing the college’s education system and includes law figures in Egypt and Germany.
