Greek police have been deployed to more than thirty schools and evacuated some in the suburbs of Athens following electronic threats of attacks allegedly originating from Russia.

Police spokeswoman Konstantina Dimoglidou reported that the threatening emails targeted at least 35 schools and were sent from foreign countries.

The server was traced back to Russia, though authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a random spam campaign.

The digital crimes division is currently investigating to identify the sender.

A principal from one of the targeted schools, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the email warned of explosive devices in the school.

The lengthy message referenced the deadly attacks in Paris in 2015 and included the chilling statement: "We are going to blow you up like our brothers did in Paris."

The police confirmed that some of the schools receiving these emails were closed at the time, indicating that the primary intention was likely to disrupt public order.
