The Cabinet's Media Center has dismissed rumors on social media claiming that the rainfall had damaged the Grand Egyptian Museum's roof.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the media center, the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry totally denied such reports, affirming that they are baseless and bare of truth.

The GEM's roof is safe and its atrium was not affected by any damage, the statement noted.

The GEM is equipped with a rainwater drainage network and there is no error in its design, it added.

Meanwhile, Atef Moftah, the supervisor of the museum project and the surrounding area said: "Ramses II colossus is safe and sound and was not and will not be affected by rainwater, as well as the museum and all its open spaces and galleries are in the best state of preservation."

Moftah indicated that the rain was expected, and the museum's architectural design and construction had taken it into account and the rain does not represent any danger to the museum or its treasured collection.
