Golden Globes 2021: highlights and full winner list

On Sunday, the 78th Golden Globes honored Hollywood's best movies and TV shows.

The biggest winners of the annual awards ceremony were “Nomadland” and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”. The two films earned awards for best picture; “Nomadland” for the drama category and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” for the comedy or musical pision.

Among notable achievements of the night, Chloe Zhao, the director of “Nomadland,” became the first woman to win the best director award since 1984 when Barbara Streisand secured an award for “Yentl,”.

Despite nominations for Black actors and filmmakers being sparse, John Boyega, Daniel Kaluuya, Andra Day and the late Chadwick Boseman were all honored for their work during the ceremony.

Additionally, Jon Batiste secured a best score win alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. “Soul” took home the award for the best-animated film, earning co-directors Kemp Powers and Pete Docter trophies.

The television awards went to “Schitt’s Creek”, “Queen’s Gambit” and “The Crown” dominated across acting and best series categories.

American actress and activist Jane Fonda received a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony, marking a career in film and television and at the forefront of social issues over some 60 years.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the ceremony from opposite coasts. They reprised their role as hosts of the annual awards celebration for the fourth time. Fey hosted from The Rainbow Room while Poehler hosted from The Beverly Hilton Ballroom. They previously hosted globes in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
