Goethe-Institute strives to strengthen science journalism in the Middle East and North Africa to raise awareness for its importance and to fight the phenomenon of fake news.

The project fosters the relationship between science on one side and journalism on the other side in order to support knowledge transfer to a broader public and to enhance the general response to researchers’ achievements from all disciplines.

Therefore, the Goethe-Institut Cairo and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer workshops in specific skills needed to cover scientific issues for journalists as well as for scientists who aim to present their projects in non-academic media.

The project “Scientific Storytelling” is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut and MOJO Egypt, the Mobile Journalism Academy of Ten TV, supported by the foreign ministry*

The Workshop

The Goethe-Institut Cairo will organize a four-day workshop (in Arabic) for print and multimedia journalists interested in covering scientific topics.

Besides the basics of science journalism, the participants will get to know its methods and tools, how to make science attractive to the greater public and how to interact and attract the younger generation in particular. After the workshop, the participants will get the chance to hand in articles about a scientific topic of their choice.

The five best journalists will attend the follow-up workshop in September with participants from the region and three scientific panels. The workshop will focus on mobile journalism in cooperation with MOJO Egypt.
