On Saturday, the Goethe-Institute in Cairo celebrated the 26th German Teachers' Day. The event was attended by several German and Egyptian officials who are concerned with culture, and education, and hundreds of German teachers.
This year’s edition of the German Teachers' Day was focused on the educational merits of Artificial Intelligence.
The Director of the Goethe-Institute in Cairo Lilli Kobler said that about 700 German teachers registered to attend the workshops of the 26th German Teachers' Day. She asserted that the day is a forum and an open platform for educational experience exchange and upgraded educational methodologies.
The director of the Goethe-Institute revealed that the number of German teachers jumped by 25% to reach a half million German students, representing a precious chance for the students to gain more experience.
She also asserted that she understands the challenges teachers feel, and face during their career, and interaction with students.
On her side, the representative of the German Embassy in Cairo, and the head of the embassy's cultural program Anika Kramer underlined that this day was a valuable chance for all German teachers in Egypt. This day was essential for language exchange which enhanced the connections between the Egyptians, and the cultures of the German-speaking countries.
On the topic of the event, Kramer explained that AI could be used to make the process of education funnier, easier, and more interactive because teachers are unreplaceable. Teachers are not only part of the educational process, but also the cultural one. They convey dozens of cultural codes, and soft skills to their students.
She thanked the Egyptian and German authorities for their deep cooperation in the fields of language, education, and culture.
Finally, the Head of the Central Administration for Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education Dr. Akram Hassan Mohamed highlighted that language is part of the society's culture, and German is an important soft power tool of the bilateral Egyptian-German relationships. He also asserted the role and commitment of the ministry to support German teachers.
Furthermore, Hassan hailed the role of the Goethe-Institute and their role in teaching and promoting the German language, and their cooperation with the ministry.
On her side, the Head of the Department of Language at the Goethe-Institute Neven El Seiouffi said that Goethe Institute staff is pleased with the great interest of German teachers nationwide. This day underscored the importance of foreign languages as second languages for teachers and students.
She expressed that the increase in the number of German learners proves the tight relationship between Egypt and Germany.
A wide panel about AI, and the educational process followed the opening remarks where the participants shared various perspectives about the advantages of the AI in education.
It is worthy to mention that the day witnessed 19 different workshops.
