Several major international sporting events have been postponed or canceled following escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, according to official announcements released on Sunday.
The organizers of the Qatar Motorcycle Grand Prix confirmed that the race, part of the MotoGP World Championship calendar, has been postponed due to the current security situation in the Middle East.
The event had been scheduled to take place from April 10 to 12 at the Lusail International Circuit in Lusail, Qatar as the fourth round of the 2026 season.
In an official statement, organizers announced that the race will now be held on November 8. The statement said the decision was taken “due to the current situation in the Middle East.”
In a related development, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) confirmed the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from the 2026 season of the Formula One championship.
The governing body cited ongoing military escalation and security concerns across the region as the main reasons for the decision.
Officials said the move was made to ensure the safety of teams, organizers, and spectators after several locations in the region reportedly faced missile and drone attacks.
With the cancellation of the two races, the total number of rounds in the 2026 Formula One season will be reduced from 24 to 22.
The races will not be replaced, creating a five-week gap in the calendar between the Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for March 29 and the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.
The decision also affects support series events including Formula 2, Formula 3, and the F1 Academy that were planned to take place during the same period.
The security situation has also affected other sporting activities in the region.
The planned football festival in Qatar, which was expected to feature the Finalissima match between the national teams of Argentina and Spain, has been canceled.
Two friendly matches involving the Egypt national football team against Saudi Arabia and Spain are also uncertain.
The Egypt–Spain match, originally scheduled for March 27, could either be canceled or relocated to a neutral venue.
Meanwhile, the Jordan Football Association announced that a friendly international tournament initially planned in Jordan will instead take place in Antalya, Turkey due to the regional conflict and travel disruptions.
The four-team tournament will feature the national teams of Jordan, Iran, Nigeria, and Costa Rica as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the tournament schedule, Jordan will face Costa Rica on March 27, the same day Iran meets Nigeria.
Jordan will then play Nigeria on March 31, while Iran takes on Costa Rica later that day.
