The debate over the controversial Egypt-Argentina match continued long after the final whistle, as editorial cartoonists from across the world published satirical illustrations criticizing the officiating and celebrating Egypt's performance.

The cartoons, shared widely on social media, reflected international reactions to the match, with many artists portraying the referee as having played a decisive role in the game's outcome. Others directed their criticism at football's governing body, FIFA, through symbolic imagery highlighting what they viewed as contentious refereeing decisions.

Brazilian cartoonist Gilmar Machado depicted French referee François Letexier deliberately extending his leg to trip an Egyptian player advancing with the ball. In the illustration, the referee's shirt bears the words "FRAUDE REFEREE 2026," underscoring the artist's criticism of the officiating.

Mexican cartoonist Antonio Rodríguez García took a different approach, portraying Argentine captain Lionel Messi embracing FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is shown wearing Argentina's jersey with the number 12—a symbolic reference to the notion of a "12th player" influencing the match.

Jordanian artist Naser Jafari used visual symbolism to depict Egypt's national team as a towering giant dominating the scene, while the referee appears much smaller, carrying Messi on his shoulders. The illustration suggests that Egypt was the stronger side on the field while implying the Argentine star benefited from the referee's support.

Machado also published a separate cartoon celebrating Egyptian goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, portraying him as a giant figure completely blocking the goal in front of Messi. The artwork references Shobeir's penalty save, one of the defining moments of the match, and quickly became one of the most widely shared illustrations following the game.

Although the artists employed different styles and symbolism, the cartoons conveyed a common message: the Egypt-Argentina encounter extended beyond the football pitch, sparking widespread debate that reached the world of editorial cartooning.

The illustrations have attracted significant engagement online, highlighting how political and sports cartoons continue to serve as a rapid form of commentary on major sporting events while reflecting diverse public perspectives on controversial moments.
