Girona FC, RCD Mallorca and Real Oviedo were officially relegated to Spain’s second division following the conclusion of the 2025/26 La Liga season.
Girona’s 1-1 draw against Elche CF at Montilivi Stadium proved insufficient to secure survival, as the club finished 19th in the standings with 41 points.
The relegation marks a dramatic fall for Girona, who had qualified for the UEFA Champions League just two seasons earlier after finishing third in La Liga.
Mallorca were also relegated after ending the campaign in 18th place with 42 points, bringing an end to their five-season stay in Spain’s top flight.
Oviedo had already confirmed their drop earlier, completing the trio of relegated clubs.
The fight to avoid relegation remained alive until the final round, producing one of the most intense survival battles in recent La Liga history.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona secured back-to-back league titles under coach Hansi Flick despite losing 3-1 to Valencia CF in the final round.
Real Madrid CF closed their season with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabéu.
