Get to Know NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 Results, Highlights

Today, New Japan Pro Wrestling organized its most prestigious annual show, Wrestle Kingdom, in the iconic Tokyo Dome.

This year's edition is number 19, and it was the first show of the NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi's retirement tour. Tanahashi faced Evil in a Lumberjack Match.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion England's Zack Sabre Jr. retained his title against Shota Umino in a 40-minute epic. With this victory, Zack Sabre Jr. is now the only foreigner in NJPW history to walk in and out of Wrestle Kingdom as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. This achievement wasn't fulfilled by Canada's Kenny Omega, England's Will Ospreay, and New Zealand's Jay White. 

The promotion's all titles were defended, except the IWGP World Tag Team titles, through the event, including the IWGP Women's title.

During the pre-show, Hirooki Goto won the New Japan Ranbo match to determine the #1 of the IWGP World Heavyweight title.

The event also included the return of Shibata to NJPW to aid Tanahashi, and challenge him for a match tomorrow at AEWXNJPWXSTARDOMXCMLL Wrestle Dynasty.

The show also witnessed the victory of El Phantasmo who had a recent fight against cancer and captured the NJPW World Television Championship. 

Fresh stars and rising talents got a huge share of victories like Takeshita, and Tsuji, as well as Umino main eventing the show. 

The show included a highly anticipated game between Naito and Takahashi in a match speculated to be their last Kingdom's appearance.

Pre-Show

Hirooki Goto won the New Japan Ranbo match to determine the #1 of the IWGP World Heavyweight title.

Main Card

Four-way Tokyo Terror ladder match for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships:  Ichiban Sweet Boys defeated Intergalactic Jet Setters (c), Catch 2/2 and Bullet Club War Dogs

IWGP Women's Championship: Mayu Iwatani (c) defeated AZM

Four-way match for the NJPW World Television Championship: El Phantasmo defeated Ren Narita (c), Jeff Cobb, and Ryohei Oiwa 

Lumberjack match: Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Evil (If Tanahashi loses, he must retire from in-ring competition)

Winner Takes All match for the NEVER Openweight Championship and AEW International Championship: Konosuke Takeshita defeated Shingo Takagi 

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: El Desperado announced the new champion after Douki (c) sustained an injury during the match.

IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship: Yota Tsuji defeated David Finlay (c)

Tetsuya Naito defeated Hiromu Takahashi

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) defeated Shota Umino
