The NJPW G1 Climax 36 tournament continued to deliver major surprises across Nights 3 and 4, with Yuya Uemura handing Zack Sabre Jr. a shocking defeat in Sapporo before SANADA stunned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.
Night 3 featured four B Block tournament matches, headlined by Uemura's impressive victory over Zack Sabre Jr.
The young star secured the win with a High Fly Flow followed by his signature Lion's Shiner diving crossbody, earning his first in-ring victory of the tournament. Combined with his default win over the injured Shota Umino, Uemura moved to four points in the standings.
Following the match, Uemura vowed to one day submit Sabre Jr., calling the victory a major step toward his ultimate goal of becoming G1 Climax champion.
Elsewhere on the card, Ren Narita pulled off a controversial victory over Callum Newman thanks to repeated House of Torture interference. Newman, who entered the match nursing a shoulder injury, quickly submitted to Narita's Cattle Mutilation after further damage to the injured arm.
Gabe Kidd bounced back from his opening-round loss by defeating OSKAR in under eight minutes with a devastating piledriver. Combined with his default victory over Umino, Kidd also climbed to four points.
HENARE rounded out the B Block action with a hard-fought win over Drilla Moloney, finishing the match with a powerful sit-out powerbomb.
The undercard saw Shingo Takagi and Taiji Ishimori defeat Boltin Oleg and Masatora Yasuda, while SANADA and Yoshinobu Kanemaru overcame Yota Tsuji and Daiki Nagai.
Ryohei Oiwa and Hartley Jackson defeated Great-O-Khan and Jakob Austin Young, Jake Lee and Zane Jay picked up a victory over Hirooki Goto and Tatsuya Matsumoto, and Toru Yano and Konosuke Takeshita battled Gedo and Yuto-Ice to a double countout.
Night 4 continued the momentum with another series of notable results, highlighted by SANADA's shocking upset over IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji. Tsuji appeared to have the match won before SANADA turned the tables to secure one of the tournament's biggest victories.
Konosuke Takeshita defeated Yuto-Ice after putting his opponent to sleep with a sleeper hold, marking the second consecutive match in which Yuto-Ice lost consciousness.
Boltin Oleg earned another impressive victory by defeating former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi, while Ryohei Oiwa overcame Great-O-Khan.
Jake Lee picked up a key victory over Hirooki Goto after capitalizing on what initially appeared to be an injury scare before finishing the match with the FBS.
The tag team matches saw Dick Togo and Ren Narita defeat Taisei Nakahara and Toru Yano, Daiki Nagai and Drilla Moloney overcome Masatora Yasuda and Yuya Uemura, HENARE and Jakob Austin Young defeat Gedo and OSKAR, and Hartley Jackson teamed with Zack Sabre Jr. to defeat Callum Newman and Zane Jay.
After four nights of action, Jake Lee, Hirooki Goto, Konosuke Takeshita, Boltin Oleg and Ryohei Oiwa sit on four points in their block, while Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi, SANADA, Great-O-Khan and Yuto-Ice remain on two points, setting up another crucial round of matches as the G1 Climax 36 tournament continues.
