Get to Know History of Egypt's Encounters against Ivory Coast

The Egyptian national team will clash against Ivory Coast in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations, currently being held in Cameroon.

The Pharaohs reached the last 16 after securing the second spot in Group D, while the Ivorian team qualified for the last 16 after topping Group E.

History of both teams' encounters in the tournament:

Both teams clashed on ten occasions before. In the 1986 edition, both national teams faced each other for the first time in the group stage. The Pharaohs pulled off a 2-0 win.

The second encounter was in 1990, when Ivory Coast claimed their first victory against Egypt with 3-1.

Eight years later, the Pharaohs knocked the Elephants out of the tournament after winning 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in the 90-minute of the quarter final.

In 2006, they clashed two times in Cairo, where Egypt secured a 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the Group Stage. Then, they met once again in the final and the Egyptian national team won their sixth title after defeating Ivory Coast 4-2 on penalties.

The last encounter between them in the tournament was in 2008, when the Pharaohs demolished the Elephants with 4-1 win.

According to the above mentioned data, Egypt are the favorite to win the upcoming games as they won seven times out of ten clashes in the tournament.

Overall, both teams clashed 22 times in all the tournaments; Egypt won 10, and Ivory Coast won 6, while draw shared in the other 6 games.
