On Monday, the eleventh day of the highly-anticipated Euro 2024 took place in Germany. The tournament kicked off on Friday, June 14, with an opening contest for the hosts against Scotland. The Mannschaft earned the first three points in the tournament.
The final round of the Group B took place as Spain, who leading the standing of the Death Group, enhanced their position and qualified for the knockouts with 9 points after defeating Albania 1-0.
Officially, Albania were eliminated.
At the same time, Croatia and Italy fought in a very thrilling and chilling game for the final qualifying ticket to the knockouts of this group (without counting the best 3rd place holders).
Luka Modric's efforts and experience gave the Croatians a goal for the nation in the early minutes of the second half after missing the penalty kick. He became the oldest player to score in the tournament.
With their 1-0 ahead of the game, Croatia almost put a foot in the knockouts as their points reached 4, in the second place, threatening Italy and Hungary's chances in the knockouts.
But, Italy's Mattia Zaccagni saved his nation by hitting a very late goal in the final 30 seconds of the game to get the equalizer for his team, and get his country's team back to the tournament.
While the Italians celebrated their draw, the Croatians, including their strong and iconic captain Modric, collapsed to the ground.
The final moment of Modric's final dance with his national team is receiving the prize of the Man of the Match.
"Luka, you became the oldest goal scorer in the history of the Euros today..."
Luka Modrić: "It doesn't mean anything to me if it didn't help the team. This is a sad night." pic.twitter.com/haQeaywodP
