Germany have suffered an injury scare just days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after young Bayern Munich star Lennart Karl was injured during training on Friday.

The 18-year-old prospect was forced to leave the session and was taken to hospital for medical examinations, raising concerns over his availability for the tournament.

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that Karl is undergoing further tests to determine the severity of the injury, admitting that the initial outlook is not encouraging.

Speaking to reporters, Nagelsmann said the medical staff are awaiting the results of the examinations before deciding whether Karl can remain in the squad or if a replacement will need to be called up.

The setback comes at a crucial moment for the Bayern Munich youngster, who had hoped to build on an impressive breakthrough season and establish himself on the international stage.

Karl enjoyed a standout campaign with Bayern Munich, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, earning recognition as one of Germany's brightest emerging talents.

Germany will begin their World Cup campaign in Group E, facing Curaçao on June 14 before taking on Ivory Coast on June 20 and Ecuador on June 25. The extent of Karl's injury is expected to become clearer in the coming days.
