Dr. Jens Spahn, Germany's Health Minister, confirmed that his country is able to prevent a second wave of Coronavirus which is expected to hit the world next autumn.

He pointed out that that the deadly virus could be put under control if the people remain vigilant in the country and in the world, especially in the summer holiday season.

The minister told a press conference today, Monday, that it is important for travelers abroad to remain vigilant.

He added that he was "concerned" about pictures of beach goers organizing parties on the Spanish island of Majorca over the weekend, ignoring the rules of social distance.

Spahn went on to say that he understands that people are impatient after months of harsh isolation.

"But where there are parties, the risk of infection is especially high."

He noted that it is necessary to take care of infection prevention in the holiday season in particular.

He continued that we may not automatically have to expect a second wave (of the pandemic) in autumn or winter.

He stressed that together, as a society in Germany and other countries, can prevent the deadly virus from spreading, as the countries did once before.

Spahn reported that more than 15.5 million people had installed a German Corona Warning app and that 500,000 people had undergone COVID-19 last week, in the largest number of tests since the crisis began.

Germany has recorded nearly 199,000 infections and over 9,000 deaths killed by the Coronavirus so far.

The German minister has warned citizens not to be complacent in dealing with the Corona pandemic, urging them to abide by the rules of protection.

He indicated that the danger of a second wave of infection with the COVID-19 is real.

He held a joint conference in Berlin with the head of the German Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control, Lothar Feller today.

He called on citizens to remain cautious during vacation periods and not to deal with it, appealing to young citizens to adhere to safe distance, hygiene and wearing masks.
