Germany has called on its citizens to leave Iran immediately and to avoid all travel to the country due to fears of retaliatory actions from Tehran.
The warning comes after Berlin, alongside Britain and France, triggered the United Nations snapback mechanism to reimpose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
The three European powers launched the 30-day process on Thursday, a move expected to intensify regional tensions following recent strikes by Israel and the United States against Iran.
According to the German Foreign Ministry, representatives of the Iranian government have repeatedly threatened consequences in response to the sanctions move, raising concerns that German nationals and interests could become targets of retaliatory measures.
The ministry also cautioned that the German Embassy in Tehran is currently able to provide only limited consular services, further highlighting the risks for citizens remaining in the country.
