Germany has announced plans to deliver 60 additional IRIS-T air defense missiles to Ukraine to bolster its defense against ongoing Russian attacks.
According to the German Press Agency (DPA), the missiles will be sourced from German military stockpiles, following high-level government discussions during Defense Minister Boris Pistorius's recent visit to Kyiv. The total cost of the missile shipment is estimated at €60 million.
Due to the pressing situation in Ukraine, the decision was made without specifying the funding mechanism.
Pistorius also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit, expressing optimism about ongoing negotiations in Germany aimed at providing an additional €3 billion in aid to Ukraine.
Pistorius acknowledged financial challenges following the collapse of Germany’s ruling coalition, delaying the 2025 budget.
He emphasized the urgency of resolving these issues, stating his confidence in finding a solution to support Ukraine during this critical period.
