Germany has announced that it will provide military assistance to Ukraine worth over 7 billion euros in the current year.

The German government, in a statement, revealed that Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed "ongoing support for Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East" with U.S. President Joe Biden during a telephone call on Tuesday.

Both leaders agreed on the "necessity to continue supporting Ukraine financially, militarily, and humanitarian," as stated in the release.

It further noted that "in 2024, Germany will support Ukraine with military goods valued at more than seven billion euros."

Initially, Berlin had planned to allocate a lower amount (around 4 billion euros) to Ukraine in 2024, but this was increased based on a request from German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

The decision underscores Germany's commitment to bolstering Ukraine's military capabilities and overall security.

The White House, in its statement regarding Biden and Scholz's conversation, mentioned that the leaders "coordinate the continuous steadfast support provided by their countries to Ukraine."

This coordinated effort reflects the international community's dedication to assisting Ukraine in the face of security challenges.

It is noteworthy that Germany is also contributing significantly to Ukraine through its allocation of 50% of European Union aid designated for Kyiv.

This call for shared support among European nations comes amid rising energy costs following sanctions against Russia and inflation.

Moscow has emphasized that Western countries interested in negotiating a settlement to the conflict in Ukraine should cease arming Kyiv first.
