German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul called on Israel Wednesday to exercise military restraint to avoid further suffering, stressing that the Middle East is at a crossroads.

According to a statement released by the German Foreign Ministry before his departure on a tour to Jordan, Lebanon, and Bahrain, Wadephul emphasized the need to continue efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was reached through intensive diplomatic mediation in Cairo.

He added that efforts should now focus on meeting the aspirations of the region's people, expressing his deep concern over reports of renewed fighting. He called on Hamas to fulfill its commitments in the first phase of the agreement, including the return of the remains of deceased hostages.

The German Foreign Minister explained that the 20-point plan represents a roadmap for breaking the cycle of war and destruction, noting that Germany will continue to play an active role in its implementation by sending officials from the German Foreign Ministry to the region this week. He noted that Jordan plays a "valuable and constructive" role in mediating and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, stressing Berlin's desire to continue its support for Amman. He also emphasized the importance of economic reforms in Lebanon and cooperation with the International Monetary Fund to revive the deteriorating economy.
