The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) received on Saturday 42 wood pieces of the second boat of King Khufu.

The ancient pieces were transported from the Giza Pyramid complex after their renovation.

Khufu's second boat project is implemented in cooperation between the Ministry of Antiquities and Japan's Higashi Nippon International University.

Supervisor of the GEM project Atef Moftah said that the museum has so far received 1,006 wood pieces of Khufu's second boat.

He added that once all wood pieces are assembled, experts will start to rebuild the second boat and place it beside the first boat, which will be moved later to another place.

Meanwhile, Director of the GEM’s Executive Affairs for Restoration Eissa Zidan said that 1,200 wood pieces out of 1,272 have been restored so far by the restoration teams.
