World famed billionaire and technologist Bill Gates explained that Nuclear energy will be more politically acceptable for economic reasons as it is safer than oil, coal, and natural gas. His comment came in a recent interview with CNBC published on Thursday.

He asserted that the world needs clean energy and the new innovations in its technology are making using such energy safer, despite its well-known fatal accidents such as the atomic bomb or Chernobyl.

Gates continued: “Nuclear has actually been safer than any other source of [power] generation,” saying: “You know, coal plants, coal particulate, natural gas pipelines blowing up. The deaths per unit of power on these other approaches are — are far higher."

Death rates from energy production

The world-famed technologist highlighted that using liquid sodium instead of water to cool reactor which can help in avoiding meltdowns and decreasing the size of nuclear plants are revolutionary innovations in increasing the safety of using nuclear power.

On the other hand, a number of countries that started adapting the usage of nuclear energy were mentioned.

“The United Arab Emirates is looking beyond its fossil fuel history and has just started up the first of four nuclear reactors, which by the middle of this decade will supply 25% of its electricity, and Turkey and Bangladesh are constructing their first nuclear reactors,” Jonathan Cobb, senior communication manager for World Nuclear Association told CNBC.
