“A more transmissive variant is not likely but we have been surprised a lot during this pandemic. Omicron will create a lot of immunity at least for the next year,” he writes.

Gates, who has committed resources via his foundation to help in the global fight against the virus, claimed that people may have to take “yearly shots for Covid for some time”

The Microsoft co-founder had cancelled holiday plans amid fears of the rapidly spreading Omicron variant in the United States.

“Just when it seemed like life would return to normal, we could be entering the worst part of the pandemic. Omicron will hit home for all of us,” the billionaire wrote on Twitter. “Close friends of mine now have it, and I’ve cancelled most of my holiday plans.”
