Japanese side Gamba Osaka ended Al-Nassr’s hopes of continental glory after securing a 1-0 victory in the AFC Champions League Two final on Saturday night at Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh.
The defeat extended Al-Nassr’s long wait for a major Asian title and denied Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo his first official trophy with the Saudi club.
Gamba Osaka claimed their second continental title thanks to a decisive strike from Turkish forward Deniz Hummet, who found the net after a well-worked attacking move inside the penalty area.
The winning goal came after Tunisian forward Issam Jebali delivered a precise assist to Hummet, who fired a powerful left-footed shot past the Al-Nassr goalkeeper to silence the home crowd in Riyadh.
The Japanese club produced a disciplined defensive performance throughout the match, frustrating Al-Nassr’s attacking stars despite the Saudi side enjoying more possession for large periods of the final.
Gamba Osaka relied on quick counterattacks and rapid transitions, repeatedly exposing gaps in Al-Nassr’s defence and creating several dangerous moments during the game.
Al-Nassr struggled to break through the organized defensive structure of the visitors, despite the presence of several attacking options and strong support from fans at Al-Awwal Park.
The result marks another major achievement for Gamba Osaka on the Asian stage, while disappointment continues for Al-Nassr FC, who had hoped to crown their season with continental success.
The defeat is also a setback for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose arrival in Saudi football brought huge expectations of international and regional trophies for the Riyadh-based club.
