On Wednesday, Turkish Galatasaray accused Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho of making “racist statements."
The club said that they would initiate criminal proceedings against Mourinho over his comments after the teams’ 0-0 draw in the Turkish Super Lig.
Galatasaray said on X that Mourinho had “persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people” since coming to the league.
“Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric,” the club added.
“We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.”
Mourinho said the Galatasaray players had been “jumping like monkeys” and that if a Turkish referee had been in charge, this match could have been a disaster.
