The head of Egypt's General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) Dr. Ashraf Ismail discussed on Thursday with the representative of France's inclusive public development bank (AFD) the best ways to advance the process of comprehensive medical insurance and provide Egypt with technical, scientific and financial backing.

Ismail held bilateral discussions and consultations with AFD on common areas of cooperation and designed a work plan to be implemented within the framework of GAHAR priorities.

During their meeting, they also reviewed the strategic partnerships program and the universal health insurance program developments as well as the latest achievements undertaken by the state in this regard.

"We would like to note the GAHAR's work in elaborating international standards and criteria which reflect the latest fruitful achievements of Egypt in ensuring the citizens' wellness," Ismail said.

Speaking to the AFD representatives, he also revealed: “Throughout the three years period, we have been active in inter-agency cooperation to mainstream Comprehensive medical insurance issues into programs and projects."

In the same spirit, the head of Gahar pointed out that the agency supports the reformist initiatives in Egypt and that the new and upgraded facilities guarantee the medical sustainability of the system.

In order to improve the effectiveness of these national health programs, GAHAR has explored and actively promoted mutual areas of collaboration with its French counterpart agencies and other stakeholders as well as international partners, within the realm of their respective comparative advantages.
