The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Referee Committee has unveiled the officiating crew for the 2023 African Super Cup showdown between Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, and Algeria's powerhouse, USM Alger.

In a statement published on CAF's official website, Gabon's Pierre Gislain Atchoo was named the match referee. He will be joined on the field by Gabon's Boris Ditsougo and Cameroon's Karin Atizamboungou Fomo. Taking charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties is Mauritian referee Maria Rivet, supported by Moroccan Adel Zourak.

Kicking off their new season, Al Ahly, victors of the African Champions League, are set to challenge USM Alger, winners of the Confederation Cup.

The CAF has formally scheduled the African Super Cup clash, a face-off between Al Ahly and USM Alger, in Saudi Arabia's Taif city on September 15th. The thrilling encounter will take place at the renowned King Fahd Stadium.

Notably, Al Ahly holds a distinguished record in the African Super Cup. The team has triumphed on eight separate occasions. However, they've also tasted Super Cup defeat twice: once against Zamalek in South Africa in 1994 and then against ES Sétif in 2015.
