French high-speed trains will be back to normal "as of Monday morning", the national railway company SNCF announced on Sunday, with "complete completion" of repairs to lines damaged ahead of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

The situation on the Atlantic axis on Sunday was "almost normal" and "three out of four high-speed trains" were running on the northern axis "without any lengthening of the journey time", the company said in a statement.

Sabotage damages caused chaos at stations on Friday, at the height of the rush hour for people leaving and returning from the summer holidays, and hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.

The company said on Sunday that "thanks to the exceptional mobilization of SNCF network workers who have been working hard since Friday morning, repairs have been completed on all high-speed lines affected".
