France has pledged to send three Rafale fighter jets to Poland in response to Russian drones breaching Polish airspace earlier this week, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday.
The deployment is aimed at strengthening the protection of Polish airspace and NATO’s eastern flank, Macron said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). However, he did not specify the exact location where the aircraft will be stationed.
Macron stressed that Europe’s security remains a top priority, vowing that France and its allies will not yield to growing intimidation from Russia.
The decision follows a major Russian airstrike on Ukraine on Tuesday night, during which a large number of drones crossed into Polish territory. In a historic first, Polish and NATO forces shot down several of the Russian drones.
The move underscores France’s commitment to collective defense within NATO and highlights mounting concerns across Europe about Russia’s expanding military aggression.
