France is intensifying its Coronavirus booster vaccination campaign and entry rules for non-EU arrivals in response to the spread of the Omicron variant, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Wednesday.

Attal added flights from southern Africa, where the variant was first detected last week, would remain suspended until Friday.

The official noted that the flights would resume from Saturday only for travelers returning to their main residences.

Furthermore, Attal added there are about 1,100 vaccination centers in operation and the government plans to open 300 more in the coming weeks.

Nearly 51 million, 76% of France's population, have received two vaccine shots.
