France has awarded the insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour to Professor Khaled El-Enany, Egypt’s candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO and former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. The decoration was presented by French Ambassador to Egypt, Éric Chevallier, during a ceremony held at the French Embassy in Cairo.
This prestigious award recognizes El-Enany’s exceptional career dedicated to preserving Egyptian heritage, advancing scientific research, and strengthening Franco-Egyptian relations, as well as his contributions to international cultural cooperation.
Ambassador Chevallier described Professor El-Enany as a proud Egyptian, a Francophone, and a Francophile who has long been a valued partner of France in the fields of archaeology, culture, and education.
France also reaffirmed its full support for Khaled El-Enany’s candidacy as Egypt’s nominee for UNESCO Director-General, underlining its commitment to effective multilateralism. UNESCO, the ambassador emphasized, remains a key institution that embodies this vision across education, science, culture, communication, and information.
