France took another major step toward qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 3–0 victory over Azerbaijan on Friday night at the Parc des Princes in Paris, in the European qualifying campaign.
The hosts dominated from the start, with Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé opening the scoring just before halftime (45+2’).
In the second half, Adrien Rabiot doubled the lead in the 69th minute, before Florian Thauvin sealed the win for "Les Bleus" with a late strike in the 84th minute.
The result strengthens France’s position at the top of Group D, where they now lead with 9 points, while Azerbaijan remain bottom with just one point from their opening matches.
In the same context, the French Football Federation announced on Saturday that Mbappe has left the national team training camp and returned to his club, Real Madrid, after suffering an ankle injury during Friday night’s match.
