In a significant political development, four ministers from Canada's Liberal government announced their resignations and decision not to run in the upcoming elections on Tuesday, with an anticipated federal cabinet reshuffle expected to take place on Wednesday.

Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, and Helena Jaczek, Minister of Procurement, made their announcements via Twitter early on Tuesday, following the declarations made by Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Carolyn Bennett, and Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Joyce Murray about their resignations from their respective positions.

In a video statement, Alghabra, who has served nearly 11 years as a Member of Parliament (MP), two and a half years as a minister, and six terms as a MP, stated: "I have made the difficult decision not to stand for the next election. As a result of this decision, I am also stepping down from my role as a Minister as the Prime Minister deserves a committed government to run in the upcoming federal campaign." He will conclude his term as a representative for Mississauga Centre. Alghabra assumed his role as Transport Minister in January 2021, his first and only cabinet position, where he faced various challenges, including major airport delays last summer and during the holiday season, and a recent Vancouver port strike that significantly disrupted Canada's supply chain.

Veteran political expert and Ontario MP Jaczek also tweeted about the end of her time in federal politics that same morning. "After 50 years of public service as a physician, Health Services Commissioner, provincial MP, and now MP for Markham-Stouffville, I have decided that I will not seek re-election after my current term," said Helena Jaczek. Prior to becoming Minister of Procurement in the last cabinet reshuffle in August 2022, Jaczek served as Minister in charge of the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, a role she was appointed to for the first time in October 2021.

The wave of resignations continued, with Minister Joyce Murray, in charge of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, tweeting that she won't be running in the next elections. She joined the cabinet in March 2019, initially serving as the President of the Treasury Board and Minister for Digital Government before moving to her current position in September 2021.

Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett also revealed to journalists on Monday that she will not be seeking re-election in Toronto.

As the Canadian Liberal government braces for the federal cabinet shuffle, the country awaits to see how this political reshuffling will shape the future course of Canadian politics and policy-making.
