In August 2015, The Bulldozer announced his retirement from football on his Twitter account.
The 36-year-old burly striker won the Africa Cup of Nations title with the Pharaohs twice; 2006, and 2008. He netted 29 goals in 63 caps for the Egyptian national team.
Zaki's high moments included starring for Wigan, Enppi, and Zamalek.
In the meantime, he also had bad moments and unsuccessful spells at various clubs such as Hull City (England), Elazığspor (Turkey), Al-Salmiya (Kuwait), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Al Ahed (Lebanon) and finally Arab Contractors after he returned to Egypt before announcing his retirement.
Earlier this month, Ghazl El-Mahala’s football team barely survived a fatal car crash after the team’s bus, which was heading towards their training camp in Alexandra, collided with a vehicle on the agricultural road.
