By Maydaa Abo El-Nadar CAIRO, Nov. 6 ( SEE ) - Egyptian national volleyball men's team won the 2018 Arab Volleyball Championship's final, a tournament takes place every two years. In addition to this year's title, Egypt previously won in 1986, 2014, and 2016. This is the third time for the competition to be held on Egyptian soil, as it was hosted by Egypt in 1996 and 2016. 2018's final took place between Bahrain and Egypt. Bahraini players showed amazing performance and for Egyptians it was not an easy victory. Egypt won the first and the third game by the difference of only two points, both games' score was 25-23. Bahrain won the second game by 19-25. By a score of 25-15, Egypt claimed the fourth game.
Worth noting is that Bahrain claimed the tournament's title in 1992 and 2008, and was the country that hosted most of its editions. In 1994, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2012 the championship took place in Bahrain. Back to 2018's edition, the result of the match played to determine the third and fourth places, was in Oman's favor. The match took place between Oman and Iraq also on 3 November. Score was 3-1 (20-25/19-25/25-23/18-25). In addition to Egypt, Bahrain, Oman, and Iraq, another three countries competed at this year's edition: Jordan, Algeria, and Palestine. Saudi Arabia's team was invited but did not participate because it was competing at another tournament. Egyptian team included the following players: Ahmed Fathy, Mohamed Gabal, Abdel Rahman Hussien, Sherif Saaid, Hesham Yosry, Rashad Shebl, Mohamed Masood, Ahmed Abdel Aal, Hossam Abd Allah, Amr Hassan, Ahmed Shafik, and Mostafa Abdel Rahman.
Prize money was 10 thousand USD for the winner, 5 thousand USD for the runner-up, and 3 thousand USD for the team placed the third.
